My first visit to Disneyland was already shaping up to be unforgettable. It was early December, and the parks were beautifully decorated for the holidays. Haunted Mansion Holiday was in full swing, “it’s a small world” Holiday was sparkling with lights, and the entire place felt magical. I didn’t think the trip could get any better.
Then came the next day.
A small group of fellow travel advisors and I were scheduled for a Disneyland VIP Tour, and it quickly became one of the most memorable Disney experiences I’ve ever had. Our guide was fantastic – knowledgeable, funny, and even willing to jump into photos with us throughout the day (which probably made his job a little more entertaining than usual!).
Before we got started, he made sure everyone was taken care of with drinks and Mickey bars. There is something fun about walking through backstage entrances and bypassing standby lines while other guests glance over, trying to figure out who you are. For a few hours, you feel like a Disney insider.
What struck me most wasn’t just the priority access to attractions – it was the stories. As we walked from one park to another, our guide shared fascinating Disney history, hidden details, and behind-the-scenes insights that even longtime Disney fans would appreciate.
Our group experienced many of both parks most popular attractions, with enough time to revisit a few favorites. The ability to move quickly through the parks without spending hours in line was an incredible plus and allowed us to make the most of every minute of our day. Our VIP experience extended beyond rides. That evening, we enjoyed Fantasmic! from a reserved VIP viewing area. Watching the show from that location was the perfect ending to an already incredible day.
Would I book a VIP Tour again? Absolutely.
Would I recommend it for everyone? Not necessarily.
A Disneyland VIP Tour is a significant investment, so it’s important to determine whether it aligns with your family’s travel style and goals. Families with very young children may want to wait until everyone is ready to fully take advantage of the experience. Since portions of the tour go through backstage areas, some families may prefer to preserve every bit of the Disney “magic” until their children are older.
For families visiting for only a few days, however, a VIP Tour can be a fantastic way to experience many of the headliner attractions in a single day, leaving the rest of the vacation open for relaxing, dining, and enjoying the atmosphere. Disney history enthusiasts will also appreciate the unique insights and stories. The best part is that a VIP Tour can accommodate up to 10 guests, so sharing the cost among family members or friends can make the experience much more attainable than it initially appears.
